Hoodoos and Bear Glen

Today was our first field day with Bob. We drove up the Ice Field Parkway from Calgary to Banff, where we went out to look at see some glacial landscapes. We stopped at a spot to see Hoodoos, which are towers of glacial sediment that were differentially eroded. We found another ridge with a better record of the sediment layers, which I happily climbed all over. Playing in the mud took me back to the carefree days of childhood. Bob even led some of us in an old call-and-response bear attack song.

On our walk back to the vans, we bumped into a GIANT elk. This was our first encounter with wildlife, and luckily he was happy where he was.
