Athabasca Glacier Day 1

Today we got to walk on the Athabasca Glacier, which is part of the Columbia Icefield. Bob took us through ice safety and taught us how to use microspikes, ice axes, harnesses, and ropes. We hiked all the way up to the ice fall, which was about 3-4km from the toe (end of the glacier). As we got rope up and walked along the ice fall, we could see how the ice moves and breaks over steeper topography. It was a lot of hiking for the first day, but was so worth it.
